Northern Lights ...

I have always been fascinated by the Aurora Borealis aka The Northern Lights! My grandfather talked about them.  He immigrated from Norway when he was about 19 years old and was processed through Ellis Island eventually becoming a US Citizen.   Since we live in Michigan we have attempted to capture their unbelievable beauty but so far we have missed her.

We hear the stories of her "dancing" and changing colors.  One day we will meet her!!  But until then, how about recreating her beauty on a card.

This was done with our inks squished on my glass mat and then I brought my Water Painter (water brush) in on the action.  Before using the squished colors I did drop a couple droplets of water onto them.
I started with Night of Navy making just longer flicking strokes with the Water Painter.  I did leave areas of the white watercolor cardstock and then brought in Pretty Peacock.  I went over small areas of Night of Navy with Pretty Peacock and also covering some of the remaining white space.  I followed up with Lemon Lime Twist to the bottom and lightly brushing a bit from the top over the other 2 colors.  I did use 1 Water Painter pushing a bit of water through after each color onto a paper towel and then went on to the next color.

After I finished with the inks and water painter I thought "oh, what a mess" but as the card came together I really thought it came out great - especially since my 1st Northern Lights card.  The trees are stamped with Stazon Jet Black and I did ink all edges of the watercolor cardstock with a dauber and Night of Navy.

I think it would make a pretty Christmas card too as in all honesty, I don't see how there could be any 2 that would be identical.

Here are the measurements for this card.  Although I cut for "vertical" I actually made this card "horizontal" with the fold being on the left side when complete.

I would love for you to give this technique a try even if not for Northern Lights.  If you give it a go please post to my Stampin' Up!™ Facebook page in comments.  The link is on the right for that FB page and please follow if you aren't already.
